I choose to paint traditionally because the tactile nature of brush to board allows me to capture the intangible qualities of a pet. Being a pet parent myself, I can relate to how much people love their furry family members, and my goal is for that to come through in my art.

When I look into the faces of these animals, I look for more than the unique physical characteristics. I form my own connection to the pets when I paint their portraits, in order to capture what makes each one special. I want the client to feel they are receiving a thing of value, and see the labor of love involved.

Education / Professional Background

After earning a BFA in Illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, I spent a combined 30+ years working first as a freelance illustrator, then full-time graphic designer. But during all that time, painting remained my passion.

In 2017, still grappling with the loss of our beloved cat Mocha a month earlier, I was moved to pick up the paint brush and begin a portrait of my sweet girl. The process not only helped in the healing, but I discovered a new calling. Combining my love of animals (yes, especially cats) and painting — while bringing a smile to people’s faces —  is what I was clearly meant to do.
